I built this mailbox for our church. I decided to make it form solid Red Oak
because the oak plywood I was finding in the big box stores was of such poor quality.
I used General Finishes Stain and Minwax Wipe On Poly for the top coat.
This was a fun project to build and required some fixtures to be built for the
slot spacing and to router cut out the shape of the dividers.

Looks great, good job. I’ll bet they will keep it around for a very long time. I agree about the plywood. The stuff that is worth using is so pricey that you’re better off starting with solid wood and not having to worry about edge banding, voids, or burning through the veneer when sanding.
