I made this hall bench as a surprise gift for my Mother last year .. it is loosely based on a few designs I found while scanning some catalogs but was, for the most part, assembled without a plan as I progressed.

Dan, I really like the looks of this bench. I looked at it a few days ago, before I signed up as a member, and was impressed then, too. Did you make templates for all the curvy parts? I know you said that this came into being as you worked; I just wondered how you made some of the neat shapes you did. Great work!

Robb -
I created the curvy parts using some 1/2 MDF that I had around the garage first and then used them as a router template once I was satisfied with the overall look. The legs were a bit of a challenge given their thickness and the need to prevent cutting against the grain .. I’ll have to take a picture of it in place the next time I visit my parents house as my mother (the seamstress in the family) has created a nice cushion for the top so folks can sit and take their shoes off whenever they visit.
