Rolling Planer Cart

Project by 3fingerpat posted 32 days ago 563 views 0 times favorited 7 comments Add to Favorites Watch

This posting was inspired by LJ Ken’s project: http://lumberjocks.com/projects/22522; thanks Ken.

I had made this rolling tool cart many years ago, all made from mdf. It had a small bench top drill press mounted to a 3/4” board which slide into an area on the top that was made by having the sides and back 3/4” higher than the top. Inside the cart is the Mortising Machine, also mounted to a 3/4” board so either unit could be slid on or off the top depending which one was in use, and the unused unit would fit inside the cart. I got rid of the drill press a while back and forgot about using the top until Ken posted his project. I had to trim a small amount of wood-okay, it’s really mdf not wood, from the top side for the planer to have a nice snug fit. So no more bending over and pulling out the planer from underneath the workbench now….why didn’t I think of this earlier, doh!
The cart is very heavy so no chance of tipping over during planer operation.

Nice Job the storage is a good Idea. You used 4 casters then? Sure beats picking the planer up.

Nice idea and the storage underneath is a nice touch

It just dawned on me the lost space under my planer. My base doesn’t have wheels, so it is a pain to move around. This is going on my to-do list.

Same idea, I have my planer on our old rolling microwave cart. It makes for a nice working height with storage underneath.

Thanks guys.
Ken, yes it has four casters, just like most of the power tools in my shop, that’s the only way to fit everything in such a small space.
And I second your comment about not having to pickup the planer anymore, wish you had posted yours a long time ago ;o)
