When my daughter was first born my wife asked for me to make a bookshelf for her (everyone gave us a lot of books, and we had no place to store them). I wanted to try to make it out of pallet wood. All four top and bottom vertical pieces sort of decided the dimensions for me, they’re just the rails on a normal sized pallet. The rest of the project took place around those dimensions.
I finished the top, interior backing and shelf with boiled linseed oil, then rest was painted white. The bookcase is held together exclusively with wood and has held up quite well in the two years its been in use, it also makes a great bin holder for smaller toys.
