Since I can not post the the pretty piece of furniture I am building this week , I am instead posting some slabs that my foreman busted today. Urban lumber eucalyptus saved from the dump with a little help . 3 inch slabs averaging 20 inches wide ,extremely hard , and not bad looking—

That will be some nice furniture. Any plans to what you’ll be creating? I see a table and some shelving and oh there’s a nice box in the back. Good luck, looking forward to your posts.

This is a wonderful save, Rob. Those are some gorgeous slabs.

Way bigger than my chunks of euc! Glad you could save it. Did this end up dulling your blade quickly?

Three slices and the blade gets pulled .These matched sets will be put through the kiln then off to the shop for flattening , jointing , splining and sanding. At this point they are pretty much finished table tops for sale , assembly line style .A couple of different company’s buy from me ,and dress them individually for each customer.

You must go through half a dozen blades in a day. Do you have a sharpener on-site?

Gary, yes I have a blade sharpening system, bought it earlier this year. Jim ,I think as my business has expanded ,I am having experiences not described as fun. I get enjoyment by helping people on this site ,the community, the school system ,in a variety of ways that solve their issues.

I’m never lucky enough to find anything like that at the dump.
Good save.

Hi Doug, Please let me make it clear that I purchase all my woods that might have gone to the dump or grinder .The folks that take down trees or clean up after the fires are all paid . Then I come along pay them again ,pay for trucking and pay my people to handle all this “free wood”. That is how I come by so much wood .Man I wish it was as simple as turning another mans trash into treasures !!! LOL By the way I started this whole thing with just an idea a couple of years ago .

Rob…...Thanks for pointing out my erroneous way of thinking. I’m a scavenger a heart and when I saw dump…well I naturally assumed …......(you do know about assume?)........a treasure trove. It appears that your idea has, in a way of speaking, paid you well.
Still a great save!

Hi Doug ,I did start with one old rotted tree ,a pick-up truck and I had to go buy a chain saw !! I just knew I could do something with that big hunk of unused wood. In my case I just kept taking one step after another until I finally got totally in over my head !LOL Anyway , there is a lot of good wood out there going to waste – happy hunting !
