My wife’s Purple Heart & Rock Maple cutting boards got put on hold when we decided to make some for a friend’s wedding present. Theirs were made out of Black Walnut & Rock Maple. Ours are finally almost complete, I have 5 coats of finish on them so far. I use 50/50 Salad Bowl finish & mineral spirits as recommended by the Wood Whisper. She loves the purple heart and they blend in well with our White Wash Maple cabinets in the kitchen.

Stunning color combo, that purpleheart is some pretty wood! Nice work on sanding them, that end grain is harder than “Japanese Arithmetic” (No offense to our Eastern woodworking brothers) :)

Smart to make a many-coated finish. I love purpleheart – so glad I discovered it through this site. Congrats on the rounded edges. I am not there yet. I still need a new router and table….
