I finally got around to making the fireplace look better. Originally it was carpeted along with the floors. I was able to finish the hardwood floors in the whole house, but the carpet looked awful at the fireplace. I made the side pieces to match up to the existing wood on the walls, and this was also my first masonry project. The color doesn’t match perfectly, but it is close enough. It isn’t perfect, but definitely better.
The second photo is the only one I can find that shows the carpet.

Well it is definitely one heck of a job you did. One of the toughest things that we face as wood workers is color matching and I think that you did that rather well. And it is a nice improvement that you made.

Very nice remodel. I think you got the color match pretty darn close and the stone is a big improvement over the carpet.

What a difference. Nice effect. Sometimes simple changes, done well, make a big difference.
I am sure the little one was a big help. Any time you needed something moistened, hand it to her…...straight to the mouth I bet…....(-:

This is a really nice addition to your home. Remodeling the fireplace, as you have done, makes it the focal point of the room and is a vast improvement on what was originally there.
