In that same craftsman home, my wife and I enjoyed a beautiful back yard with a glorious view of … a 60gal water heater ;-)
I got myself some redwood lattice, and boxed that bad boy right in.
Of COURSE, the next month, the water heater failed, and … the box I built (no choice, really) was so tight that only a Mexican water heater would fit in its confines.
It sure doesn’t make the unit disappear, but … I had fun building it, and … stain left over ;-)

I was unaware you could have them open like that. In Los Angeles County they make us enclose them so I have an aluminum shed that encloses it which hides it just fine. Cool idea…..

Being a Midwestern, for the majority of my life, I’ve never seen a H20 heater outside. Just goes to show you that there’s always something to surprise you.

That part of San Diego … never got really cold, but did drop into the 40’s. The landlord (you caught on quickly, David!) was cheap. Our gas bill reflected that … the location was far from ideal.
Ken: sort of a “don’t ask, don’t tell” deal ;-) He can worry about it, if needed, now that I’m gone. I wish there had been room, though, for an insulation blanket. If only the original, skinny unit hadn’t died….
Grizz: I have to get my wife and me out of selfish mode first! Today’s trip to the lumber yard sort of caused two end tables and a bit of bathroom cabinetry to jump on the list. Also, Sears tells me it’ll be (grrrrr) another week before my Kreg router table arrives.
But … I did peek at a General Machinery 14” bandsaw ($750-ish) while I browsed. Would be key for a few of the kid’s toys I’ve been pondering.
Thanks, all. In truth, the LJs are the extra motivation that I need to get ww projects accomplished. I really appreciate the “fraternity” of y’all!
