This is a project I finished a few years ago, as you can see in the pictures it was completed in my old shop. A friend of the family had a table out of her old elementary school that had been tore down as it was old and the structure had seen better days, evidently so did the table so she asked if I could do anything with it and I said sure I could. I started by stripping off the old varnish and paint which was quite the task, the desk was made in the 60’s and it had some colorful comments carved into the layers of paint haha. I wish I had taken a before picture because none of these actually show how much work was needed to get the old paint off. Once I got the desk stripped and sanded I finished it off with three coats of polyurethane and three coats of white paint on the inside and bottom. She now uses her desk as a place to store liquor and it is a great conversation piece at parties.

A great job refinishing.
How did you strip it?

I used Lepage stripper which didnt work too well and then i used a heat gun and a scraper which work great but in hindsight it may not have been a good idea to apply heat where I just applied a flamable product… oops wont do that again.
