Much as I’d love to take credit for this design, it’s a blatant rip-off: http://lumberjocks.com/projects/94185, http://lumberjocks.com/projects/94182. I’ve been in love with those 2 boards every since they were posted, and knew I had to try one as soon as I had a bandsaw. My technique isn’t very good (I missed a few steps as you can see by my mis-matched curves), but oh well. Next time I’ll be ready for that particular “gotcha.”

This maple came from a tree that a friend of mine milled a few years ago. I love this stuff – it has the kind of character that the plain-white-maple from the lumber yard just doesn’t have :) Best part is, there’s a ton more of it where that came from :) It does have a pretty wild grain though, which makes milling and smoothing it interesting. Spent a lot of time alternating between a card scraper and my lunchbox planer, moving the cutter-head a few thousands at a time.

Good job. I’d like to give a try at something that creative with the bandsaw. It looks nice.
