This is a Native American Bust that I just finished last night. I still have to make a base for it. It is about 8 or 9 inches tall. He is made out of Butternut as that is my favorite wood because it does not require me to paint, because I suck at it. Hope you all like it.

Nice job Tom and good call not painting, Butternut is beautiful wood, your very talented. I haven’t had the nerve to tackle portrait carving yet.

A beautiful creation, & a superb job of carving.
I think natural is the best when it comes to finishing.
If it was painted, it would be similar to a plaster casting.

Thanks everyone. Butternut is my favorite wood because it has such nice grain to it. That and I don’t have to paint it like I do with Basswood. Cause my painting talent leaves a lot to be desired. That and Butternut gives the face more caricture.
