This is a huge old speaker my dad made back in the 70s that’s just traveled around with us as we moved from house to house. It’s the ultimate basement party starter with 16 little speakers hidden behind that cloth just ready to burst some eardrums. It’s had about a half dozen themes of tack paper and/or wallpaper on it to decorate it’s particle board structure. I decided that it was time to give this music machine the dressing it deserves (not to mention that my wife probably wouldn’t have taken it in unless it had a facelift to somewhat match the decor).
Basically I peeled off the old, ripped tack paper and then glued birch veneer to the three sides of it. I sanded it down some more and then applied clear coat varathane to it. I finished the front with some new speaker cloth and pine trim. I put some wheels on it to move it around easier since the thing weighs close to 100 lbs. with all those magnets inside. It now sits happily in my basement and has kicked many a party into high gear. The last pic shows how it looks in place with my antique blender lamp and mechanical ape who dances along to the tunes it cranks out :-)
