Definitely my pride and Joy! This desk is truly the only one of its kind in the world. I decided to build this desk after not winning the best of show award my junior year in high school, I wanted to give the judges something so unique that they would have to give it their vote, and it worked! The desk is made using combinations of blood wood and black walnut to represent fire and smoke, the legs are designed to resemble fire hoses with traditional smooth bore nozzles, which the cabinet portion of the desk also sits on four identical smooth bore nozzles all turned from the blood wood. The cross piece connecting the cabinet and the legs is made to resemble two axes end to end and there is also another axe connecting the two legs that is not pictured. The round raised medallion in the center of the cabinet door features an etching of the fire department Maltese Cross, and lastly the pull station light was found on ebay, and was an actual street corner pull station lamp from a large city. The switch that turns the lamp on and off is actually the pull station itself located beneath the lamp. Like my other school projects that I have showcased on this site, I designed and drew all of the plans for this project. This project also like the others was finish sanded down to 400 grit, with two coats of Danish Oil (one of which is wet sanded with 400 grit), 4 coats of Bartley’s hand-rub varnish, and waxed with 2-coats of J.E. Moser’s premium quality paste wax.

This is truly a show piece, very well thought out.
You were fortunate to have a program in your high school to provide you with the knowledge and skills to fabricate such a fine piece of furniture. It’s a shame that many schools are cutting costs and shutting down creative programs of this nature.

I see where the woodworking talent runs high in your family. As I told your brother it is nice to see a great high school woodworking program still out there. All three of your pieces are very nice but being a fireman once in my life I really like your desk. Definitely one of a kind and beautifully done. Good luck in your career! I worked for prison industries in three different state as a furniter designer and builder. Set up and ran their custom wood divisions. We did all the proto tying and custom projects. It was a great job!

I love the hose legs. You guys were lucky to have such a great program in school.

Cool. A themed desk, just like OCC does with their motorcycles. This could be a great business.
