This is my first project post. For Christmas, each of my 2 kids picked out a coloring book for there mother. I bought a set of colored pencils to go along with them. Since my wife is ever the organizer I figured she needed somewhere to keep it all.

The box is made of red oak that was reclaimed from a house I am tearing down. I finished it with a couple of coats of BLO followed by 2 coats of Watco satin lacquer. The area for the pencils and the books is lined with black felt. It goes well with the antique oak desk we have in the den upstairs.

Thanks BB1. Notice the lid doesn’t quite close. I drilled for the hinges prior to applying the finish. The buildup of finish on the top and bottom mating surfaces was enough to keep the top from closing flush. Next time I will either wait until the finish is applied or I will will add a shim between the top and bottom when drilling for the hinges to account for the finish.

Very nice. Clean & crisp. Less is more. Good work.

Great job and you are in on the trend here – those books are really taking off and I am sure others coloring book enthusiasts would appreciate a nice place to keep their supplies. Thanks for sharing.
