How I spent my Summer…well part of it. Two of the young couples in the family decided to reproduce this summer so the old man was encouraged to help get the new family additions off to a good start by building a couple of cradles. The moms agreed on the design but of course they didn’t want the same finish. Cradle #1 for the little girl was made of solid oak with an aged oak finish and three coats of low VOC varnish with stain. Cradle #2 for the boy was to made of poplar except for oak spindles and painted white satin also using low VOC in case they kid decides to teeth on the finish. Lots of spindles and lots of sanding. My assistant (also known as the spousal unit) helped a lot and learned to use a scraper and sandpaper. The little ones, one month and two months old have settled in.

Jim, I’m sure the little ones are happy little campers! Great design and great build on both. Very nice.

Nice, i’m doing a refinish job on a cradle similar to this. Grats on the new family members.
