I was going through some old Family Handyman issues and found the plans for this in a 2004 issue. I knew right away that I had to build this, and it is the highlight of my den. The magazine called for all cherry wood, but I went with oak. These are over 7 feet tall and we nearly couldn’t get them into the room. The center section was built in place after the bookcases were complete. I am very pleased with this project. I am very fond of the arts and crafts style and the mission style as well. I don’t know if this fits into either category, but it reminds me of arts and crafts.

I’ve added some pics that give a better look at the dentils and spacers.

The plans were first-rate, gotta hand it to the guys at FH. These are supposed to be wall mounted, but I made them free-standing, I didn’t want to remove the baseboard in my den. I should have looked the plans over better, because if I had made the bookcases one inch less wide (say 31 1/2 vs, 33 1/2 I could have saved nearly an entire sheet of oak plywood.

If anyone is interested in the plans, let me know, and I’ll scan and post them.
