This was a project I did about a year ago for my uncle when he moved into his new house. When he laid new flooring the old mantle looked really out of place so I bought some 3/4” pine, mitered the edges and attached a 1-1/2” strip to make it look like solid 1-1/2” pine since I was working on a budget. Then I picked a stain color to match the new flooring and applies three coats of polyurethane and there you go, cheap and easy mantle.
-- A hammer dangling from a wall will bang and sound like work when the wind blows the right way.
