If you take a look at the price of transition strips you will want to find a way to make your own, I guarantee it. So that is exactly what I did for my uncle, he had just bought a new house (new to him that is) and put down some new flooring and we needed strips to go in the doorways. There was an old school that was being torn down in the area and they had some very nice maple hardwood flooring in there that was mostly claimed by other people but I managed to gather a few pieces for this little project. As it was a older house there where some height variations from tile to laminate, carpet to tile and so on, so I had to take note of this before I made the final cuts in my shop which is about a half hour drive from my uncles house so it had to be pretty well dead on accuracy because going back to the shop for a adjustment was not an option. When I completed the cuts I took them into the finishing room and put a dark walnut stain by minwax on them to match the laminate flooring and topped that off with 4 coats of polyurethane then proceeded to install them in their final location. A great new home for some old hardwood with a lot of history.
