Project Information
Completed these a few months ago. Both are just over 7 Ft High, and about 28" wide on the outside. The bookcase is 11" deep, and the cabinet on the right is 24" deep. I intended to complete and mount doors on the cabinet on the left, (to hide the vacuum cleaner!) but I got Jammed up with a visit from the in-laws, so the focus quickly shifted to "Get-it-in-and-put-the-room-back-together" mode (Hence the picture with stuff already loaded!) . The doors are currently languishing on the ever shifting "Honey-do-it-now" list.
I used simple box construction, with a toe kick at the bottom, modified the location of the fixed shelf to accommodate the vacuum. Used 3/4" red oak ply (sides and shelves), and 1/4" white ply (back) from the big box. Standard Dadoes and rabbits for the joints, held together with plenty of glue and #10 screws! Trimmed the edges with 1/4" Red oak strips ripped from dimensional lumber. Finished with Cabott's natural poly/stain.
I'm relatively pleased, they are very sturdy, and hold lots o stuff!
