This is a walnut wine bottle Shaker table I made about 18 years ago, that I recently refinished. I was big into spindle turning at that time—and though this form is simple, I think the finished project turned out to be one of my best.

The banding is Bufard Freres antique French banding—about 100 years old. It’s just lovely, and we all know the likelihood we’ll see this kind of stuff again. I still have a couple of strips of other stuff—but this is the last of this pattern.

The finish is a Minwax Tung Oil Finish—four coats, rubbed out with steel wool. A great project for the novice turner. Both base and top are turned.

The last photo is to show how this thing is really a study in line. No need for something fancy when you’ve got great form!

One thing that I notice, after thinking about how long ago I really made this thing :-/ is how well classically made wood furniture holds up. Can you imagine what a piece of Walmart crap would look like after 20 years?

Beautiful in its simplicity, and the inlay is a great touch. Nice work.
