I made these a few years back.
My next endeavor is to program a CNC router to build the bodies, and save myself a bunch of time!
They’re all 8/4 hunks of wood. I used maple at first, then cherry, and eventually redwood. They’ve all stood up well as both cars and airplanes getting thrown across the room. The doweled windows look a bit better, but the drilled ones are easier, of course.
I have been able to use them as skateboards, to test ‘em out in the shop.
Once I get the CNC going, I’ll run some more to sell for a Christmas craft show.

I actually like the drilled windows better. Just my .02.

Cool toys, I also make similar ones. I just bought a carvewright machine to assist in making them. Cheers/Wudbutcher

Thanks Big Steve…
I hadn’t heard of the Carvewright before. It looks pretty interesting.
Also. Bruce – I realized later on that the holed windows are easier for smaller hands to grasp sometimes. I plan to continue to use those without inlays.

Now they look like they will get great gas milage! I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of miles put on them. Very cute.
