After being inspired by the recent Fine Woodworking cover article about doweled drawer construction, I have updated an earlier blog post I wrote regarding how we used a similar construction technique to fabricate drawer boxes for a curved front piece we built … For the complete instructions, visit my dorset custom furniture blog I have also added a post about full size cardboard models, ..one about 30 new items on my website with blog links and a really thoughtful piece on thinking and drawing by Ashley Ericksmoen a member of The Furniture Society Check it out if you have a minute … dan

Dan,
Thanks for posting the pics. And I really enjoyed reading the blog.
Couple of questions concerning the curved drawer fronts.
Looking at the pictures it appears that you laminated the drawer fronts???
Did you resaw solid wood?
Or did you use bending ply?
Also- what adhesive did you use on the laminations?
Thanks agin for posting.

I have long been a fan of doweled construction. Very strong and easy to do. A real nice thing is that they can be added after the drawer is constructed.
They also have a visual appeal.
I have used them on a lot of projects to solve design challenges.

Dave … As I recall,we laminated the drawer box fronts and the cores of the drawer faces from 1/8” bending ply. The inside and outside veneers of the drawer faces themselves were resawn from solid wood. Thank you all for commenting … We probably used white glue or possibly unibond, a two part glue, to glue the laminations. We go back and forth on that .. Either will work …
