Hey All,
This was a long overdue project that my boys needed so that the actual kitchen table could take a break from the odd paint spills and marker streaks after the daily art sessions were over. It went together pretty quick with pocket hole screws. the top is Birch plywood with Cherry edging and the skirting is also Birch with Cherry accents. The legs are tapered two sides and are reclaimed from old hard maple bed frames being thrown away and I saved them from the trash, hence the dowel holes in the legs. All in all it works great and the boys love it, so mission accomplished.
Thanks for looking!

Wow.
Very, very nice job. I’m hoping to get to the point where I can create a piece like that.
Out of curiosity, though … why build it directly on top of one of your kids?
Hmm.

Hey Neil,
Thanks, but to be honest with you, using the Kreg jig made it real easy to put together. and the finish was fool proof, Watco clear Danish oil and then 72 hrs later, some Deft semi-gloss spray on lacquer. and the little one under the table was playing hide-n-seek, that’s his version of a good hiding place :)

Thank you all for the compliments, but i suppose the best one i’ve gotten yet has come from my oldest boy (5) when he said, “dad, that sure is a nice table”. those are the greatest!
