I started off this set with only one coffee table in mind which I called a guitar pick coffee table. Then I decided to add a couple of side tables based on the same design for a couple of triangular open spots in the living room. After I was done with that there was only one couch left that did not have a side table. Unfortunately the space between the couch and the fireplace is not very wide so that is why this table is so narrow. I figure it does not have to be that stable if it is just for putting a cup or glass on. No doubt I will regret that when someone brushes by it and coffee/wine/whatever else goes flying.
The design in the same. The top is a plywood maple with laminated english walnut edges and purpleheart corners. The struts between the legs are purpleheart and the legs are a wonderfully swirling black/claro walnut. This time I did something different with the finish and used rubbing compound on top of many layers of water based varnish to get a really nice smooth finish. The legs were done with an oil varnish mix.
The last picture is a picture of the set.

Very unique design and a beautiful set of tables. I like the narrow one.

I like it, it is very different than “traditional woodworking” projects.
