This jewelry box is made of solid Wenge with a Paduak lid, framed with Wenge. It is finished with clear shellac.
This was my first time using a full mortise box lock, and the first time installing quadrant hinges, and I learned a lot.

The tray inside is made of reclaimed quartersawn oak, but not sure what kind. Its almost got a maroon color to it.

The tray rests on two sycamore rails, and is lined with suede with a patch of gray sheepskin.

I took the pics of the tray before I cleaned them up with a final sanding, so there is a bit of glue smudged on them still in the pics. I learned that using spray adhesive can be messy. Next time if using it, I would mask the box sides with tape. Oh well :)

The box went to my girlfriends mom for a late Christmas gift. She adored it.

Thanks for lookin!

That wood is beautiful. But of course, it’s your work that brings out that beauty. Well done!

Love the contrast in this one! I also like your full-mortise lock, and the quadrant hinges—they make the box even more elegant!
