Here are examples of the picture frames with inlay banding that I made for Christmas. I saw a tutorial on Youtube on how to do the white x’s (second pic), and figured I could use a similar approach to execute the first “twist” pattern. The frames pictured are actually the ones I kept for us because they’re all flawed. In the first two, you can see small areas where I sanded through the inlay. It’s a minor blemish, but I can’t be giving that as a gift. C’mon. The third one got sanded through so bad that I had to sand the entire inlay off, and decided to throw some inlay lines on, since the frame was already assembled. Needless to say, I learned that there is no satisfaction in trying to see how many pieces of banding you can slice from a block. You end up with banding so thin that you sand through it. Lesson learned, thanks for looking.
