pinkfish,
Very nice bowls. You’re right the madrone burl is beautiful. I hope it wasn’t your finger or hand, that required the piece of canary wood to be added to the corner! Nice save!
Sincerely,
Ken McGinnis

No, not my finger thankfully. Working on squarebowls is a little bit worrying sometimes though, I try not to put fingers anywhere near the whirling bits. It was just being a bit aggressive in removing some of the wood from the side, caught a bit of the grain and ripped off part of the corner.

Nice job and a great patch.
One method of preventing tear out on the corners of square bowels it to glue a 1/4” piece of scrap wood on all 8 sides of the corner (overlap them at the point) before turning. Then trim what is left it off when you are finished. Any tear out or chipping will occur on the scrap pieces. This is even more important if you make a square bowl using the corners as legs where it is very hard to avoid tear out/chipping.

The Madrone is awesome. Both bowls look great. I like how you saved the corner. Nice touch.
