I have issues using both Stanley and LV totes. The big curve in the Stanley design creates a pressure point in my palm that gets really annoying after just a short time. Also, the generous radii at the bottom front and top rear really cramp my size 10 hands. As for the LV totes, they are just a bit too upright. Rather than make my bench higher, which would require straighter Stanley totes, I decided to redesign both patterns for my preferences and to about the same angle.
The 1st pic shows a Stanley, modified Stanley, LV, modified LV. The 2nd pic shows a modified Stanley, Stanley, modified LV, LV. The 3rd pic shows both mounted on planes, Stanley in back, LV in front. The custom totes are walnut and crotch walnut. I made quite a few, with various dyes and topcoats – shellac, poly, etc. I made these several years ago and don’t remember what was done to these specific totes. I have posted the modified drawings and more info on the process, although not a step by step detail, in my blog.
