These are Shrine Fez Display Cases. I have been working on this design for several years. I came up with this idea back in 1996 and have been refining the outcome every time I make them. It is nothing more than half-laps and dado’s. The First picture shows the finished trio of cases, (as I call them, BG, Before Glass). Two are made of Red Oak and the third (center) is Cherry. The next four photo’s show the half-lap and what each frame looks like before assembly. It’s very meticulous work. Each piece is .750 wide by 10.5 or 9.5 long, depending if it is a cross piece or an upright piece. Each piece is .250 thick and has a dado cut to half it’s thickness to form a half-lap. The last picture is showing the case with a Fez in it. Each case is so detailed that it is hard to explain the steps. Each case has about 6 coats of lacquer on them. Anyways, enjoy.

Don, Stellar job on the fez display cases…..I’ve often thought of getting my 32nd degree, but never have….My blue lodge helped the Shriners one time at a Shrine Circus many years ago….It was a pleasure to be able to help the kids. I like your concept on what design you came up with to build the cases….It really works to display the fezes..
What is/ was the idea behind it? Keep up the good woodworking, bud….You’re very talented….
