Another Beam Compass. Thanks to the bunch of LJ’s for the idea. I slightly modified the John Heisz design.
Pic 2: I used poplar board. Cut to 5/16” strips and glued together. ~about 21” Long.
Pic 3: I drilled a hole for the pencil, then cut through the end on table saw. Add washers so when you tighten knob/bolt the wood contacts the pencil first, then the washers…otherwise it will bow when tightened.
The long pivot bolt allows you to be able to work over moldings or tools that may get in the way of the compass swing.
Simple tip – chuck up the bolt in your drill to sharpen so you get a real nice point.
Super easy project… no nonsense, no frills, no dovetails.
