This is true Leopardwood…much denser, darker and nicer to work with than Lacewood.
I’m having fun with these wood hinges and improving my technique at making them as I go.
I like the look of recessing them so they do look as bulky and heavy.

Wow, that’s totally awesome. The workmanship and woods are out of this world.

The hingecrafter looks neat. Makes some awesome hinges. This box looks more your style but I thought the last box was great because it was subtle.

Nice wood combo

Thanks everyone. I so much appreciate your feedback… I have always felt that certain wood combinations make a big difference in the look of a box and these two confirm my thoughts.

I must admit, I like very much you sculptured boxes. This one is also special with those wooden hinges ‘inlayed’ into box body.

That is a nice wood combination. Your sculpting really adds a lot to the ‘look’ of these boxes.

Question, not criticism: can you make those hinges where the grain parallels that of the box?

I tried making several hinges with the grain orientation to parallel the grain and they were breaking too easily. Tried it with the same woods and I quickly realized that they only work in one direction

I had similar experiences with some woods. Cherry and Ipe worked well. I don’t have a Hingecrafter and thought maybe it had some magic powers.
