I made a cutting board with the criss-cross pattern ,and had some left over ,so I decided to add this to my jewelry box.It was glued up very unconventionaly. The cris-cross pattern was glued up first, then the 4 pieces of curley maple was glued last. Then ran it through the planer… and got lucky.
The sides ,and front is the basic picture frame 45 deg. cut.
The bottom piece was set in by running the sides through the table saw witout the guard. I ran it a blade and a half thickness for the bottom The feet are made with a straight bit on the router table. The entire box is made out of curley maple ,and the criss-cross pattern is walnut and oak.I coated it with finish only.
Curley maple was a bit difficult to work with …all tools ,router bits ,blades must be VERY sharp .. if not you will be sanding for a long time …enjoy..

That’s a very nice box Mark. The whole design works really well, and you obviously did very skilled work on it, but of course the top gives it the wow factor.

Fantastic box. The lid is outstanding! Great use of scraps left from another project.

Keep it up.
