These a couple of gift boxes I made out of black walnut. I ripped the crotch piece of the sliding lid and added that piece of hickory sap wood for a contrasting lip pull. I use Minwax poly for the finish. It took me forever to get those lids to the point I was satisfied with them. I had kicked the idea around of using rattle can and decided that wood was to pretty to disrespect like that. Hope you all approve.

That walnut crotch figure is fantastic. Your finish brought it out just right. I’ve got some that I need to use for something. Hope to make it look like yours.

Well the boxes both look great, looks like you did a super job, bringing out the beauty of the wood. Very nice.

Great job with the crotch piece Bob. Sliding lids are a good idea for these. The contents don’t look bad either.

The only problem I can see is that a box this beautiful can only be justified by a top notch bottle of wine or liquor. The result will be a very expensive gift indeed!
