This bench was based on Chris Schwarz’s plans. It was made mostly from leftovers that have been piling up in the shop. Three of the legs are from cedar posts from a fence project. The fourth leg was from a fir laminate. The top was from some treated decking lumber. The shelf is from some half inch fir leftovers. Yes, it is painted. I was trying to use up leftover paint as well. I used some chalkboard paint on the top thinking that would be a handy place to note measurements. I did vary from Schwarz’s plans by beefing up the top some so the holdfast would work better. I also added a small box to hold pencils and chalk, and a tape measure holder that also has a handy pencil sharpener. This project was my first attempt at mortice and tenon joints. Much of the work was done with hand tools. Thanks for looking!

Nice job, seeing this reminds me of another project I need to do for my shop. I think it looks great painted.

Great little bench and the chalk board paint idea is pure genius. Congrats on a great project.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. Demo, we may be able to work out a trade for some marinara sauce.

Are the pegs oak? That looks super beefy. REMinds me of something Roy Underhill would make. What is the purpose if the V notch?
