I tried some new techniques for this bowl which was made from some figured big leaf maple. It is 18” x 3”. The 2 1/2” rim is dyed with 5 coats of red analine dye, sanded down between coats. A poly finish tops it off with much sanding with 1000 grit to get the glass like finish for the final product. The Mrs. is happy with her new bowl.

Great finish on your bowl Peter. Next time I’m in Kelowna I’ll make a side trip and drop by your shop.

Very nice bowl Peter. That looks great. It’s been said that brown paper(grocery bag) is like 1200 grit. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks John and Mark. I should have said that I wet sanded with the 1000 grit and some paint thinner. It was recommended to me to go with 600 grit but I didn’t have any so went with what was available and it worked fine. I’ve usually only sanded to about 220 on projects but had to go finer for the smoother finish on the poly. Ill use that technique again.
