Just wanted to bring you LJers my progress with the SHOE TREE!
Suffice it to say I am still at it and my sanity is intact. Perhaps a few more gray hairs but that comes naturally with senior years.
From the last time I reported, I had a metal stand built and it is now temporarily mounted on a piece of lam-beam to hold the log in an upright position. This allows me to insert the individual boots into their slots and gives me an overall picture of the sculpture (rubber bands hold the pieces in their place). A better base is in the works.
I now carve away excess wood around the boots and smooth the edges. At present the plan is to texture the cavities and stain darker than the natural colour of the boots. This a stressful procedure as I don’t want to compromise the log’s strength and it’s ability to stay upright and hold the seven boots in their sockets.
When the finishing is complete and the staining is finalized, the boots will be permanently fastened to their cavity with the hope to strengthen the log’s integrity. Wish me luck!

The final picture shows my ‘Man Cave”, my 100 square foot workshop. The pictures were taken inside the “Cave”. Will have a further story of this project in the future.

Regards to all,
The Bootman!

Thanks for the caution John. The deck and railing will be coming up in the Spring. The front of the deck is a bed of roses so the main steps will be from the left side of the building. A rail built to code is in the plans.

I DO love your shop, Roman.
Reminds me of Superman’s Fortress of Solitude. :-)

That is really exciting Roman, Can’t wait to see the finished project.
You are a very clever man.

Bob.

-- Bob, Western Australia, The Sun came up this morning, what a great start to the day. Now it's up to me to make it even better. I've cut this piece of wood 4 times and it's still too damn short.

Roman, Good Evening. It isn’t clear to me, what is it?? If you please, tell me in detail about this project in the letter. At me it is bad with the translation or with the head. LOL…...........
