A small box with an eastern flair made from curly maple and Goncalo Alves. This was a skill building exercise to see if I could make the top recessed more than the sides to allow the goncalo alvez trim to stand out when the lid was on. I was happy with the overall result. The finish is clear lacquer to allow the curly maple to show through.

Great looking box. Handle looks like a samurai sword in a rack! Very cool.

Great work, it turned out great. I like the woods but it doesn’t look that simple to me! :))

I’d call it anything but simple, but it sure is beautiful!

Tex, I like the design. The handle, legs, and contoured top are nice details. The wood choices and photography are excellent. Only criticism is that the leg shape makes them appear a bit “stuck on.” I like the top and bottom banding since it frames and sets off the maple’s grain and color. This has a crisp over-all appearance. The inset top is a nice touch. It makes the design flow and disguises the crack between the lift-off top and the sides. Thanks for sharing. Keep boxing and keep posting.
