Book looking jewelry boxes

My idea of something different for a jewelry box. This is my fourth jewelry box of this style. I try to make each one a little bit better and more complex. The first one had 3 books. Because of the uniqueness of this idea, I’ve been able to sell them all, although probably for too low a price because of all the work involved. The place ribbons are made from plane shavings dyed red and blue. The bottom book has thin brass strips for the bookmarks which I’ll explain why later. For the top box, you lift the top cover off to gain access to the compartment underneath, push the top box (it’s on a dowel swivel) to either side to see the second box interior, the 3rd box has a rounded dowel in the book binding, push in with a finger to pop out the third box enough to pull it out the rest of the way, the bottom box is opened by pulling the brass strip ribbon (the colored plane shavings would be too delicate). The top box is on a dowel to be able to swivel, the others are glued together. Thanks for looking.

Nice work. Beautiful craftsmanship, Art. Don’t know what you’re charging for these but it can’t be enough!

Are the compartments lined with pigskin?

They are a heavy cloth that has the appearance of a grained leather. I got a 5ft.x 8ft piece at a flee market for $10. I thought at the time it would last a lifetime, now I’m nearing the end of the supply.

I’m averaging about $400. Think I’ll up the price a little if I make another.

Very nice….I will add them to my favorites for maybe a future project.

I would love to see a blog on how you made them.
