I made this pen for my wife for our anniversary. Puzzle pieces have been “our thing” as it seems that the pieces of our lives have just been falling into place over time.
I made this project using a “puzzle inlay” kit from Woodcraft and a cigar pen kit from Penn State Industries. Each puzzle piece is made from a different type of wood that has been laser cut to fit together and have the correct arc for wraping around the brass tube of the kit.
Needless to say it was a lot of work and required a great deal of glue. Once all the pieces were glued together and glued to the brass tube, finishing was more difficult than expected. Since each type of wood cuts and sands differently due to their varying hardness, shaping was a slow process. Like my acrylic pen project it required the careful use of a VERY SHARP skew. The finish is CA glue as in my first pen.
Needless to say, my wife was shocked when I gave it to her. Not too bad for a novice (even if I do say so myself).
