Being a “glutton for punishment” I decided to try a challenge for my second pen project. Not made of wood, this pen was turned from an acrylic blank called “Molten metal”. As you can see, there is some amazing colors in the material.
The key to this project was learning how to use a skew. Like my first pen, if it wasn’t for my dad’s help on the technique of using a skew, this would have been nothing but a pile of acrylic shavings. I made this for my wife as a request based upon a design she saw in the Penn State Industries catalog. With a “Space Pen” fine black refill, the pen writes very nice too.
I did learn a valuable lesson… Read the instructions BEFORE you begin a project. You can’t tell from the finished project but I had to make a correction so the center collar would fit properly.

Another nice pen. Lots of detail in this.
Glad to here about you working with your dad. All ways nice when skills and interest gets passed on through the generations.
Great job. Keep it up.
