A little while back, my wife complained that our letterbox was too old and broken, she was sick of having to look all over the lawn for the mail each day. So, around 6 years later, I built her a new one! ;-)
It’s made from spotted gum, these were offcuts from a decking job a friend had, the wood is just beautiful.
I used my box joint jig to make the box, then spent aaaaaages with a file sanding and shaping the fingers. I love the look of big, pillowed box joints and I think they look very effective on this box. This was the first time I’ve attempted to make a dome or curved panel and I extremely happy with the results.
There’s a lot more info and my sketchup model is available on my site, and I also made a video of the build as well if you are so inclined.
Thanks for looking!
