Maple and Black Walnut Bowl

Project by Seer posted 65 days ago 415 views 0 times favorited 3 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Well I know not another bowl lol but this is the first where I actually took pictures during the process. It is made of Maple with a Black Walnut rim actually just 2 pieces of different thickness i thought would compliment each other. I learned another valuable tool here “PATIENCE”. I had a great time doing this bowl as it is the largest to date about 5 1/2 inches across and 3 inches tall. I made some mistakes and I need to get the walls thinner but a small blowout kind of stopped me. I finished it with Boiled Linseed Oil and 3 coats of Medium CA glue. Other than the few things I messed up on I think it came out well for me.

My turning experience before this was on Pens so i guess as they told me in another place get the pocketbook out. There is someone here I may be able to talk to about lessons and I agree I am doing all this just from what i find here and other places. Sharpening my tools is the hardest part so far.

Nice bowl. Maple and walnut go very well together. Lessons would be good, (find out how to sharpen and hold tools, etc…) But nothing beets practice. Keep playing around and pay atention to what you do. That will give you a better idea on what works good and what doesn’t.

I still have a long way to go. The end result may end up ok but the process is still trial and error for me.

Keep at it and Keep posting.
