Project Information

This is a chair that assists elderly people or those recovering from injury with standing from a seated position. It works by pushing down on the pedals with your feet, which causes the seat to tilt up making standing easier. The project is made almost entirely of wood although does have elements of metal work. This is my final project for my Design Technology course so any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Pretty cool.
I weigh a lot….....it would be fun to see how far I could launch myself if I stomp down on the foot pedals quickly.

Interesting concept. Is the seat/pedal linkage at the hinge point restricted in its lateral movement to provide additional stability? Also, I noticed that the chair arms are considerably flared. Does that flare provide better leverage to the persons arms over a more inline position?

Yes, there are two wooden pieces on the side of the seat to stop it moving. The flare of the arms was slightly wider than I hoped, because of the angle the wood could be bent at, but shouldn't affect the leverage in a major way

If you put both feet on those plates are you able to push down hard enough to move the seat?
