This was something I wanted for a long time to be able to attach my iPhone 6 Plus to a tripod to help take video and photos, but I never wanted to pay the money for the cheap plastic mounts that still won’t fit unless I take my otter box off (pain in the butt) so I made an over built version that will last forever out of scraps of oak and walnut and a couple dollars in hardware. 1 piece of 1/4 20 all thread cut down and two brass threaded inserts into the base block and two washers and two wing nuts. It works perfect and looks a lot better than cheap plastic lol. Thanks for taking a look.

Great idea! Highly adaptable to other phones too.

Well done Davy, That’s a cool little adapter you built there. This project caught my eye because I’ve built one too. My phone is a 5 instead of a 6 but your first photo looks identical to mine. We have the same case. You’re right about the difficulty of removing the phone from the case. I can’t post mine on the site, it won’t qualify as a lumberjocks project. No wood involved. Used the existing case and stainless steel.

Clever idea! Very nice choice of wood and stain. I was trying to think of a way to get rid of the all thread and wing nuts—maybe a counter bore (on the end with the wing nuts) with a couple lag bolts and springs under the heads of the lag bolts. The lag bolts go into the inserts and the spring forces the two halves together—pull them apart (compress the spring) to slip the phone in.

Honestly something like that was my first idea and when I got home and started to build it I realized I bought the wrong length of bolts so I improvised with other hardware I had laying around lol. I built this totally on the fly out of necessity. I’m sure you could adapt this design for any phone and any size and really make it sleek. Hope it gives you guys a foundation to make your versions. It works great, super handy!! Thanks for all the comments.
