This was a commissioned piece and my first to use a natural slab for a top… needless to say I am truly inspired by natural wood now! Hoping to find more clients that appreciate it as much as I do.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,
Ah yes, the beauty of ‘the living edge’ that you have shown us here. Your slab top is inviting to the eye, as those curls on the top catch my attention.

Two questions:
a) What is the top finished in?
b) On the support that joins the base to the top, there is in the middle a ‘black piece’, what is that?

Great piece of work!
Frank

Thanks for the kind words Frank!
The top is finished with a combination of Boiled Lindseed Oil and Gloss Minwax Wipe On Poly.

The pedestal is actually spalted basswood with a laminated block of Claro Walnut sandwiched in the middle for some interest.

Very interesting. Just out of curiosity… How much does that table weigh?

That is an impressive slab. I’ll bet the table doesn’t get moved around too much.

How could you not be inspired by natural wood like that? Gorgeous.

I, too, love the natural wood furniture.
