New White Ash Kitchen Table

Project by Brad posted 72 days ago 622 views 3 times favorited 14 comments Add to Favorites Watch

So like so many furniture pieces I’ve built it all starts with my wife saying in a store… “Hey I like that…” then i look at the price tag quickly compute in my head what the lumber would cost and time and respond with “I’m not going to buy that I could build it for way less…”

This table is white ash. The top is 45×45x1 the legs 3×3 and it’s 29” high. For finishing I used General Finishes water based rosewood stain. It only took one rub on and wipe off to get that darkness i was pretty shocked. For the clear I used Polycrylic satin which i sprayed on 8 coats with my HVLP. A guy at my local Rockler gave me a great tip when using the water based stains. He said that alot of the color is near the top with the water based and wiping on the first coat would take some color off so shoot the first few coats of clear with an HVLP.

I didn’t build the chairs we bought those and I matched the color to the chairs which was pretty close.

Overall I was pretty happy I’d say 95% since I did find one corner where the aprons were 1/16” off from what my Sketchup model had.

Are you saying that Sketchup had a problem that is off 1/16”.

Very nice table. Great job. I hope that your wife is proud.

Hey guys thanks for the comments… The aprons are have pocket holes on the back and are also glued to the bottom of the top. The legs have 45 degree chamfers on the top 3 inches where I installed hanger bolts that go through support blocks on the underside of the table and bolt on. I wanted to be able to remove the legs if we move and in case our family grows some day and I want to slice this table in half and make a leaf for it.
