Tabitha Cum
—-and so you made your incision in metre,
out there in the octaves of wooded living space,
you waited till one such as i came walking by,
and in your patience of never losing hope,
....” i stopped and said, little girl arise….”
—-your patience was in the ages of eons,
where golden haired angels of filamentous wispy inspired desire,
cater to the one’s of us who walk with eyes in the sky,
never having a reason beyond the one you gave,
....” i stopped and saw, a living gazelle….”
—-tis now the time of your appearing as going out,
when with maple and walnut you merged in oneness,
greyness of morning dawn i saw the likes of all your good,
as doing a dance of beechly richness,
….” i stopped and knew, grace-beauty-gentleness….you are!”
And so with the use of no-glue….no-nails….no-screws….and no-mechanical fasteners….except that which comes by way of wood, I re-turn to add some descriptive photo’s.
....the wood used in this project are maple, walnut, beech and white oak.
....the timber framing ‘wood joinery’ used is half lap, mortise and tenon and wooden hand carved tree nails. Since everything I have learned about ‘wood joinery comes from first having learned post and beam, I decided to go with my roots in this project and use these great joints.
....finish used is tung oil and de-waxed garnett shellac.
....all surfaces were sanded with #80, #120, #220 before appling the finish. After the finish of tung oil was applied, I left the piece of beech branch to cure on it’s own. Next I applied the coats of de-waxed garnett shellac to the slab of maple wood, leaving the walnut to cure with only a finish of tung oil. Now came the time of sanding again and again….with #0000 steel wood, this I did to the top (walnut) and one end slab (maple) while leaving the beech to mellow in it’s own way.
....the wooden tree nails were first ran through my bandsaw and then hand carved with knife and rasp, Next I cut a riffle in the nails, so I do not have to worry about them backing out, this is where I used the white oak. When it comes to tree nails, I do not believe that there is any wood that is common and both as useful in New England, as white oak for this purpose.
....the weight of this table has surprised me, in that it is much light and yet very stable. Yes, this table is what I call and market as a one-of-kind piece of ‘wood art’....
I will now post two other images of the wood used in the table, walnut, maple and oak tree nails….foue in the walnut top and three in the maple….

....and….

I will also in the next day or two, be writing more on this piece of ‘wood art’ in a blog with many photo images and thoughts.
You may also read more on this one here at: Tabitha Cum....a descriptive journey
Thank you.

Frank

Pretty Cool.
I can’t say that I’ve ever seen anything like it.

Wonderful Frank. I really like it. One of these days I’m going to have to get out of the city and go for a long walk in the woods.

Frank, both of your Summer Challenge ‘07 entries are true to your nature; free spirited, thought provoking and inspiring. This would grace any home.
Best wishes.

Frank, The Mystical Woodartist...
Interesting approach to the material and the art of woodworking itself. I don’t recall ever encountering anybody as original and creative as you, and I mean it in a positive way, of course.
Keep up giving us your food for thought please. I’m sure you are one of those “binary” artists that are either loved or hated but you never leave anybody indifferent, and this is very difficult to accomplish and quite necessary in our society.
Keep up the good work!

very unique and thought-provoking.
It is definitely “art” as I find myself putting a story to it or at least trying to (and needing to) put a story to it – which is a real work of art .
Nicely done.

Hello every-one….just flying in, before I’m back out to work….much too much work to do this time of year!
Just to explain the name, “Tabitha Cum”....’tabitha’ is hebrew and ‘cum’ is from the aramic and when you join them to-gether you have ‘little girl arise’. Tabitha also means….’gazelle’, and then to my way of thinking….is not a gazelle, full of beauty, grace and gentleness. And in the end….this is what Tabitha told me, as this speaks to me of her resurrection into new life!
Thank you.
GODSPEED,
Frank

Yes Frank I did get moved. I’ve been in my new place for 3 weeks now. It took many hours of sorting through the 200 or so LJ emails in the past three weeks as well as get some yard work done at my new place, set up my shop and of course…unpack. I’m enjoying it here very much so far. I only have one more trip to make to Southern California and that’s to pick up my other truck.
