My first 2 attempts at some bowls. The first is from some walnut and the 2nd is Cherry. They are small 2 and 3 or so inches across from some scraps I have laying around. These are the first turnings I have done like this with a faceplate and sacrificial block. LOML likes them but I want to move on to larger ones but for now these will be good practice and since all I have is a mini lathe size does matter here lol. I posted about some Claro Walnut I have which I would really like to do next.

Nice work. Most new turners don’t get the insides so smooth. Size isn’t so important. If you don’t plan to get a larger lathe, there are plenty of fantastic things you can turn on the small one. Lots of good turning books around for instruction and inspiration if you need it.

Stefang said it well….Size isn’t so important.. lol.. I have a large lathe and a lot of the time wish I had a mini-lathe also. I love turning the small projects. One year I turned Christmas tree ornaments for all the family and they loved them, actually everyone has been waiting for me to turn more. Good work and keep turning. It’s so additive.

I’m saving up for my lathe and hope to make bowls as nice as yours.
Keep turning and keep posting.
You have “the touch”.

Great job. Very nicely done. You can get an awfull lot done on a small lathe. Try lots of different designs and it will get you more used to handling the tools.
Keep it up.
