This is another great walnut top that let me build a box around it. The top is live edge walnut, maple bow ties, to hold a crack together. With a contoured walnut box, babinga splines, walnut devider and felt liner. This walnut I found in central Montana, stored in a chicken coop for at least 50 years. The elderly farmer had made a trip down south with grain or cows, and bought a load of walnut and hauled it back. It had been stored in a turkey barn for several years, prior to the farmer buying it. So this wood has quite the fowl history. We have very little hardwood in Montana, so this was a great find. Thanks

Nice! You certainly did that walnut proud. And the “Patron” hinges are a nice touch.

Does that bowtie go all the way through the lid?

Andy, thanks for the kind words. Sometimes I forget where I steal ideas. I cut a 1/8” bow tie on each side of the lid with my router inlay bit and a homemade bow tie jig. I have broke a few of those 1/8” inlay bits by trying to go to deep. So now I just do one on each side. I have done several this way with no problems.

It’s very nice and creative and has a lot of character.
