These are two solid maple dining room tables I made for a friend. 4×4 legs with 5/4 thick tops. I used expansion washers in the rails on the length and ends to allow for expansion, for attaching the tops. Got them from Lee valley. A wonderful idea to stop any expansion/contraction problems down the road. These tables are 48’‘x60’’ and 48’‘x84’’. I am told that in a 48’’ width the top can expand or contract up to one inch with the seasons.
I used Pratt and Lambert #38 satin varnish. The stain matches the kitchen cabinets perfectly as that is what the customer wanted.
-- Wood glue residue doesn't take a stain well.
